A national recruitment campaign is underway to find the person to steer the Plymouth and South Devon Freeport to success.
The search is now on for a permanent Chair to bring strategic direction to the new Freeport company. Plymouth and South Devon Freeport, an exciting and ambitious project for the region, is hotly anticipating the announcement from Government that the Full Business Case has been approved, an announcement which is due imminently.
The Freeport will play a central role in unlocking investment opportunities, delivering infrastructure and promoting innovation both in the UK and globally.
Harnessing the region’s key strengths in marine and defence, and supporting the emerging space sector, the Plymouth and South Devon Freeport will enable innovators and investors from across the world to test, trial and take to market cutting edge technology and products.
The Freeport is a dynamic public/private partnership with Plymouth City Council, South Hams District Council and Devon County Council working alongside Princess Yachts, Carlton Power, the Sherford Consortium, and a wider range of stakeholders including the Universities of Plymouth and Exeter, Plymouth port operators, skills providers and the Heart of the South West LEP to ensure its success.
The recruitment of a permanent Chair, and other key roles including permanent CEO and senior level management opportunities is a crucial process in the launch of the Plymouth and South Devon Freeport. Following a tender process national recruiters, Penna, are responsible for the search for the Freeport’s new Chair.
Interim Chair, Adrian Bratt:
“The team involved in the Freeport partnership have worked tirelessly over the last 22 months to get this exciting and ground-breaking venture to this stage, as we wait the approval of the Full Business Case from Government.
The website is now live, recruitment has started and the region really is poised to attract huge investment throughout the three new tax sites.
It has been a privilege to hold the role of Interim Chair and support the project team as they have navigated a robust process to get to this stage. The Freeport will soon be entering its critical mobilisation phase to accelerate opportunities and growth in its identified key sectors and I look forward to handing over to a permanent Chair who will guide, advise and help shape the Plymouth and South Devon Freeport for the future.
These future opportunities for investment, growth, job creation and the introduction of new innovations into the region will firmly put the Freeport on the map, and Princess Yachts will remain committed to supporting this venture as Plymouth really does become open for business.”
