The publication of the Department for Business and Trade’s Modern Industrial Strategy shines a spotlight on Plymouth and the surrounding area, recognising our region’s existing strengths and future potential.
Richard May, CEO, PASD Freeport:
“This strategy recognises the area’s long-standing strengths, particularly in defence and marine autonomy, and the vital role the Freeport can play in helping to grow these sectors of the future, generate new jobs, and so much more.
This recognition is further bolstered by Plymouth’s recent designation as the National Centre for Marine Autonomy. The Industrial Strategy explicitly champions our Freeport status as a key enabler, empowering new and high-growth businesses to succeed with sustained government support, benefits and incentives.
It really is a very exciting time for the Freeport, Plymouth, South Devon and the wider South West!”
Adding to this momentum, the Industrial Strategy publication announced the Industrial Strategy Zones Action Plan, which aligns the UK Freeports and Investment Zones programmes under a single identity. Industrial Strategy Zones will be key to delivering Government’s industrial goals.
This week also saw the release of the UK Freeports Programme Report, showcasing the incredible progress made so far by Freeports up and down the country.
With defence and marine as key areas of focus, alongside the space, advanced manufacturing, engineering, and net-zero sectors, the Plymouth and South Devon Freeport is perfectly positioned to support and deliver unparalleled opportunities for development, investment, and growth, now and for many years to come.
