From high quality job creation to community investment and carbon reduction, the Beaumont Way development is showing exactly how Freeport-backed projects can deliver real social value, not just promises on paper, but tangible benefits for people across Plymouth and South Devon and beyond.

Beaumont Way is a development of 4 units from 750-2000 square metres at the Freeport’s Beaumont Way tax site. The development is being led by Plymouth City Council who are co-funding the work with the Freeport. Our incredible development partners, Devon Contractors, own the construction contract after a competitive bidding process and the build has progressed in exceptionally good time, starting December 2024 and scheduled to complete in autumn 2025.

Creating Real Career Opportunities

With over £8 million invested into the Beaumont Way Business Units, this site is already helping to create and retain local employment across the supply chain. To date, the project has:

  • Created 4 full-time jobs, including a hire from a NEET (Not in Employment, Education or Training) background
  • Supported 5 additional local jobs into our supply chain
  • Delivered 7 meaningful work placements, giving young people a vital first step into the sector

And the benefits aren’t stopping at employment alone, we’re creating long-term pathways into skills, training and qualifications that will serve the region for years to come.

Building Skills for the Future

Beaumont Way is investing in people at all stages of their careers:

  • 49 weeks of training delivered
  • 8 formal qualifications supported
  • 5 training plans to support future development
  • Engagement with local schools, including Glen Park and Yealmpstone Farm Primary Schools, inspiring the next generation of engineers and builders

Whether it’s a bricklaying NVQ, construction management training, or CSCS certification, the project is actively closing the local skills gap and backing residents with meaningful credentials.

Driving Green Innovation

Beyond jobs and training, Beaumont Way is leading the way in environmental and community contributions, aligned with the Freeport’s broader net zero and inclusion goals:

  • £3,500 donated to local causes, including local parasurfer, James Price
  • 50 hours of volunteering to improve local school facilities
  • 2,750 car miles saved through car-sharing
  • 3,500 low or no emission miles as a result of our green transport programme
  • 20 tonnes of hard-to-recycle waste diverted through reuse and recycling

Responsible Supply Chains

All suppliers working on Beaumont Way are vetted for ethical employment practices, including zero tolerance for modern slavery, blacklisting or exploitative contracts. This high standard ensures every pound spent on site contributes positively to the wider economy and society.

In total, the project has already generated over £175,000 in measurable social and local economic value and that number continues to grow.

A Model for Inclusive Growth

Beaumont Way demonstrates what’s possible when economic growth and social value go hand in hand. As the site continues to develop, it’s not just building industrial units — it’s helping build a stronger, fairer future for the South West.
